CASSINI (2022)

CASSINI (2022)

The fourth and final entry to the Clip Studio Paint annual International Comic Contest, CASSINI is a dialogue-free comic about the real-life space probe sent out by NASA to study Saturn and its moons. Adhering to the theme of "Journey", this story was written to remind readers that failure is often beneficial to our growth, and that the growth itself is always more important than the final goal. CASSINI was written and illustrated in mid 2022.

In addition to the International Bronze (for webcomics), CASSINI was also awarded 10 awards (for art direction, illustration and book design) at the Singapore Crowbar Awards 2022, held by Association of Advertising and Marketing Singapore (AAMS).

HOW IT WAS MADE

Cassini is a comic based on the real-life space probe with the same name. Hence, this story required lots of research in order to get the facts right. See how I did it here!

TO DO: FLOWERS (2021)

To Do: Flowers tells the story of a young woman who is oddly obsessed with taking care of a bouquet of flowers gifted by her absent boyfriend. Written during an exceptionally low period in life, this story is an emotional tale about finding inner peace independent of partners, especially the ones who aren't good for us. While it didn't win any award for that year's contest, I would consider this my proudest work to date as it's a powerful symbol of strength and overcoming loss (to me at least).

BIRD (2020)

BIRD follows the tale of a male dancer who is forced to face his inevitable fate as a soldier on the battlefield.

A story about forgoing personal dreams to meet others' expectations, BIRD was my way (as a then 17 year old) to express my frustrations as an artist living in a rather conservative Asian household, with added theme of the effects of toxic masculinity on our society today.

BIRD won the International Bronze for the webcomic category in 2020.

GIFT (2018)

GIFT is the first comic to kickstart my comic-writing career; I wrote it when I was 15, just about to take my exams.

GIFT expresses the stresses of a socially anxious office worker as he attempts to find a relationship. When he makes a wish for his birthday, he wakes up with an unexpected superpower which he uses to make his first move.

GIFT won an International Bronze, and it's the first of my works to receive official recognition.
